Coke Face Be Gone!

Setting Powder vs. Finishing Powder- What is the difference?

When HD powders first came out, many makeup -artists, even those who have Angelina Jolie on their client list, did not know the difference between setting powder v. finishing powder. Unfortunately, they literally could not see the difference either with the naked eye because it is only visible with the flash of a camera. I'm going to break this down so that you never make this mistake and end up singing "I'm in love with the Coco.." in tears.

Setting powder, such as my favorite Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder, are used to set in cream/liquid foundation. After you are done using your foundation, cream contour, concealer, etc, you should dust on setting powder to help it last longer and not melt off your face! Have you ever applied liquid foundation, then a powder blush or bronzer right over without using setting powder? Notice the blotchiness it causes? If you don't use translucent setting powder first, before using any other powder, your powder makeup will go on very dappled! Setting powder helps keep the liquids and creams in place while providing a smooth canvas for powder makeup!

Finishing Powders, such as Make Up For Ever HD Powder, are softer in texture and the results are only visible on HD photos or videos. Finishing powders truly make your skin look flawless by elimating fine lines and wrinkles.  However, if you use a HD powder before using setting powder, you will end up looking like a ghost (see photos above)! Just remember to use it minimally; a little goes a long way!

So remember the order:
1 . Liquid/Cream Makeup (Foundation, Concealer)
2.  Translucent Setting Powder
3.  Powder Makeup  (Blush, Bronzer)
4.  Finishing Powder

Voila! You'll never be a coke face again!
